History of Mopidevi:
There is a belief that once Lord Subramanya came into the dream of his ardent devotee Veeravarapu Parvathalu and mentioned about his whereabouts to him. It was then that Parvathalu with the help of his villagers found the Idol of Lord Subramanya which was self manifested and unearthed it from the anthill where it was present.
Legend behind Mopidevi Temple:
The Rishis like Sankara, Sanakasa, Sanatkumara and Sanatsujata were ardent devotees of Lord Shiva who left this materialistic world and remained naked. Once upon a time when they visited Mount Kailash to offer prayers to Lord Shiva, during that time Sachi Devi wife of Indra Dev, Swaha Devi wife of Agni Dev, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswathi also arrived to Mount Kailash. It was then that Lord Subramanya son of Parvathi Devi while sitting on his mothers lap snickered innocently on the fully dressed Goddesses on one side and the naked Rishis on the other side. When Parvathi Devi repremanded Lord Subramanya for his childish behaviour, he realised his mistake and took permission of his mother and went to earth to do penance. He did Penance in the guise of a Serpent and got rid of his sin and thus this place famously got to be known as "Mopidevi".
